I was hoping we would take a goalie and I believe we have a good one here.

In regards to Alzner, it was posted in previous comment section that he has hand/wrist issues from blocking shots, as much as I like Alzner, those types of issues could come back to bite us. Pass.

Goalie looks like a great pickup. Pass on Alzner and sign as many UFA's to one year deals to flip at the deadline. Get up and running in two years!!!

I don't know if it relates to hockey much but I like the way the draftee's handled themselves in interviews and the moxie of some. Michael is the type of player Van needs, a player with real compete in him.

I'm glad to see that you have come to terms with the 1st rounder. You are a good poster.

For a Ufa D I'd like to sign Gryba to a one year deal maybe 1.5m and forward Jay McClemment to a similar deal. As for goaltender id be interested in Mike Condon to play with Markstrom.

Otherwise play the kids

Our teams going to blow anyway way, if he stays healthy consider it a bonus.

I'd sign him.

I have never got a 1st round pick for Canucks right in the 30 + years of following draft (other than Sedin's, that one was obvious what Burke was doing.
Don't know why I thought I would guess right this time.

Sportsnet had Russell ranked 9th best UFA available and didnt sign until Oct 7, 1 year $3.1m. I think GM's are slowly getting smarter when dealing with low-offense defenders, we might see Alzner hold out for the big payday and settle for a 1-year deal. VAN should pursue in that instance, if only to trade him at the TDL or reopen the Tanev situation

I would rather Van sign Beachemin or Girardi for 1 year deals.

Stoked to see if Pettersen and Dahlen move up to the top tier mens league in Sweden and make some noise as linemates.

UFA message to Canucks;

Short term, don't overpay.

You don't need to make a splash.

Do not do something stupid and give a UFA term and dollars that don't make sense. I'm fine with another top five pick next year. Let's build a team to compete by 2019-20.

Thanks Carol, interesting read on DiPietro. We definitely needed another goalie prospect.

Now is when it starts to get fun watching them again as some of the kids begin to earn spots.

Alzner should be a no-go. The price tag is too high, and he'll be looking for long term, I just don't see a fit.
I'd much rather go with Oduya or Hainsey, on one year deals, then flip them at the deadline.

I think both of those are fine but wouldnt bring much at TDL. As long as its 1 year deals JB is handing out, I am ok with anyone they decide to bring in

Apparently Pettersson is heading to Vaxjo in Sweden's top league. Not sure if Dahlen's plan is to go to AHL if he doesnt make Canucks

Dahlen will go to the AHL if the Canucks think he is close to making the team. If they think he isn't close, they will send him to the SEL to play with Pettersson.

I am not sure Dahlen's contractual situation over there, but looks confirmed that Pettersson isnt going to be back at Timra next season:

Also for what its worth, Vaxjo plays their first preseason game August 10th. Likely the reason he wont be at the Penticton tournament
